A bubble level, also known as a spirit or carpenter's level, indicates whether a surface is level and plumb. It is a long, narrow tool with multiple liquid-filled vials along its length. The vials are tinted to a specific color to help you identify them from across the room, and a bubble inside one of the vials indicates whether your workpiece is level or plumb.
To use a bubble level, place it on a flat and roughly level surface and take a reading of the bubble. If it sits centered between the two lines on the tube, your surface is level. If it rests more toward one side, your surface slopes downward right-to-left. Similarly, if the bubble is to the left of the lines, your surface slopes upward left-to-right.
You can find a wide range of bubble levels in our catalog. They range from basic models to professional-grade tools that have a digital display. Some Pros prefer the simplicity of a digital electronic level, while others enjoy the durability and accuracy of a traditional model.
You can even find levels that have angled vials to check sloped surfaces. These types of levels are often used by contractors and tradesmen, including carpenters, stonemasons and bricklayers; electricians, plumbers and other professionals who work with pipes; woodworkers; and surveyors. We also offer a range of torpedo levels, which are designed for use in tight spaces. Many of these can be stored in your pocket or tool bag, and they are often compact enough to fit into a rifle cradle.
